Perfil, sentimentos, atitudes e sentidos das mães em relação ao diagnóstico de câncer em seus filhos

Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo descrever os sentimentos, atitudes e sentidos de mães em relação à descoberta do diagnóstico de câncer de seu filho e caracterizar seu perfil sociodemográfico. O estudo é do tipo exploratório, descritivo, realizado em 2004, na Santa casa de Misericórdia de Sobral-Ceará, com sete mães. Os resultados apontam que as mães possuem renda de até um salário mínimo, pouca escolaridade. Após a descoberta do diagnóstico de câncer o sentido é de desespero, com atitudes de choro e apego a reza, pois entendem a doença como uma coisa muito ruim. Conclui-se que o câncer nos filhos traz dor, ansiedade e desespero e que a necessidade de um processo de cuidar mais humanizado é vital.
This research had as an objective the description of the sentiments, attitudes and sensibilities of mothers in relation to the diagnosis of cancer in their children, and characterizes their sócio-demographic profile. The study is both descriptive and exploratory, and was conducted in 2004 at the Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Sobral in Ceará, with a group of seven mothers. The results indicate that these mothers posses an income of up to one minimum monthly salary and have little formal education. After leaming of the diagnosis of cancer in their children they had feelings of desperation with wailings and laments and recourse to prayer, because they understood the illness to be something horrible. They concluded that cancer in children brings pain, anxiety and despair and that a more humane process of treatment is vital
