Nursing (Ed. bras., Impr.); 29 (320), 2025
Publication year: 2025

Objective:

To explore the evidence on nursing care for oncology patients with elimination stomas undergoing chemotherapy Method: Narrative literature review. Articles, manuals, and other literature were included to compose the discussion.

Results:

There was a lack of publications focused on nursing care for chemotherapy patients with elimination stomas. However, the importance of biosafety care, careful handling of excreta, and protection of the peristomal skin were emphasized.

Conclusion:

Nursing care is essential for patients with stomas undergoing chemotherapy. It is crucial to intensify surveillance on the stoma and peristomal skin, as the effluent becomes more aggressive, increasing the skin's vulnerability to lesions. Healthcare professionals must strictly follow health guidelines and use personal protective equipment to ensure their safety. The urgent need for new studies to improve knowledge and the quality of care provided to these patients is highlighted.(AU)
