A vacinação é um procedimento rotineiro e essencial ao controle das doenças imunopreveníveis, contudo, complexo quando analisado sob a ótica dos familiares da criança. Buscou-se conhecer os sentimentos e as percepções dos acompanhantes de crianças menores de dois anos a serem vacinadas e investigar o significado e a importância desse ato. Trata-se de estudo com abordagem qualitativa, realizada através de entrevistas semiestruturadas, submetidas à Análise de Conteúdo, direcionadas aos acompanhantes de crianças menores de dois anos. Seus resultados revelaram a ocorrência de sentimentos conflituosos relacionados à imunização, em virtude do entendimento da necessidade de vacinar em contraposição ao incômodo gerado pela submissão da criança a sensações dolorosas e à preocupação com reações adversas e possíveis erros técnicos. Apesar de o significado da vacinação ter sido associado à proteção e prevenção, receios e temores revelam a necessidade da adoção de estratégias que visem a diminuir ou eliminar as impressões negativas relacionadas a essa prática
Vaccination is a routine and essential procedure for the control of immunopreventable diseases, however complex when analyzed from the perspective of the family members of the child. It was sought to know the feelings and perceptions of the companions of children under two years to be vaccinated and to investigate the meaning and importance of this act. This is a descriptive cross-sectional study with a qualitative approach, carried out through semi-structured interviews, submitted to Content Analysis, aimed at the companions of children under two years of age. Their results revealed the occurrence of conflicting feelings related to immunization, due to the understanding of the need to vaccinate in opposition to the annoyance generated by the submission of the child to painful sensations and the concern with adverse reactions and possible technical errors. Although the meaning of vaccination has been associated with protection and prevention, fears and fears reveal the need to adopt strategies aimed at reducing or eliminating negative impressions related to this practice
