Hidden features of the emerging sexuality of older adults: a phenomenological study

Sexuality is a part of the human dimension that comes along with the living body throughout their existential trajectory, the reason because the individual do not west it in time, than it can be experienced in early age. From that concept it was developed a phenomenological study of nature which aimed to understand how the elderly understand and live their sexuality, being held in the period of January to July 2006, with ten senior citizens between 61 and 83 years old, who live in city of Curitiba (Brasil). The objective was to perceive as the aged one understands and lives its sexuality. The data of the study were obtained using a semi-structured interview recorded by digital media.
The process of the analysis of speeches followed the moments of the phenomenological description trajectory:
description, reduction and phenomenological understanding. From this study three themes emerged. This article describes only the theme "Hidden Faces and the emerging sexuality". We note that this research allowed us to realize how the elderly people perceive and experience their sexuality, and also it provided an opportunity to understand the importance of companionship, socialization and recreational activities as a vehicle of expression for sexuality. The way the aged ones perceive and live your sexuality goes beyond the biological vision. They recognize that, independent of the physiological alterations and marks of the time during the aging process, the manifestation of the sexuality elapses the desire stored in its being and their crosses proper relations.
A sexualidade, parte da dimensão humana, acompanha o corpo vivente durante toda a sua trajetória existencial, motivo pelo qual não se perde no tempo e pode ser vivenciada na mais tenra idade. A partir dessa concepção, foi desenvolvida uma pesquisa fenomenológica de janeiro a julho de 2006 com dez idosos residentes na cidade de Curitiba (Brasil). O objetivo foi perceber como o idoso entende e vive a sua sexualidade. Os discursos foram obtidos mediante entrevista semi-estruturada gravada por meio digital e a análise seguiu os momentos da trajetória fenomenológica: descrição, redução e compreensão fenomenológica. Surgiram três temas dos quais será abordado Faces ocultas e o emergir da sexualidade. Este estudo possibilitou compreender a importância do companheirismo, da socialização, das atividades lúdicas como veículo da expressão da sexualidade do idoso. Destarte, a maneira como os idosos percebem e vivenciam sua sexualidade transcende a visão biológica e enriquecem seu aqui e agora. Reconhecem que, independente das alterações fisiológicas e marcas tatuadas pelo tempo em seus corpos durante o processo de envelhecimento, a manifestação da sexualidade decorre do desejo armazenado em seu ser e que permeia as próprias relações.
