This research is an experience report that shows the participation of the pediatric wards nurse at the child protection program HCPA. The program assists inpatient children that come from the outpatient unit or emergency room, assisting the victims of violence and their families. This is a multidisciplinary team and the pediatric ward nurse participates since 1995. The cases are weekly discussed and planned. It was observed from the processed data, the increasing number of hospitalized children with evidence of violence. This fact emphasized the necessary of qualification the nurse and her special attention to attend this cases which is considered as part of the nursing role to interview the family, evaluate the child, investigate the signs, as well as to orient and make domicile visits.
