Violência contra a mulher: aspectos relacionadas à denúncia

This is an exploratory descriptive study, of qualitative and quantitative nature with the aim of identify the aspects related to the complaints of domestic violence against women. Data were collected through a semi structured interview among eighteen women, from august to October 1998. The results show that in this cases the aggressor was their own partners, most of them were under the influence of alcohol and the aggression was physical as and verbal and the official complain was made the day after the aggression. From the women that suffered the aggression 50% had lived with their aggressor for more than 10 years; 38% had already suffered aggressions more that 10 times and 33% went on suffering aggressions after the official complain. In 83% of the cases, the family of the victims knew about the aggressions and 72% had been informed about the official complains, through 38% had given support to the victims. Several sorts of feelings led the women to make official complains against their aggressors, and after that, there was a feeling of relief associated to a feeling of regret for not having done earlier. The aggressors presented different reactions positive, negative or indifference ones. The violence against the women is still in the domestic ground and making official complains is a way of calling attention, as well as it is a resource that can bring back the woman' dignity and in some cases even solve the problems...
