In the present work the authors discuss the specific way of exercising authority in the teacher-student relationship. The analysis show how the historical dimensions of some actions are legitimized by educator' "social voice". The author used an episode occurred in the classroom to illustrate inversion of roles between teacher and students analyzing features of this situation. It was verified the use of disciplinary mechanisms, such as punishment, an authoritative mechanism to assure control.
