Objetivo:
avaliar o conhecimento, as atitudes e as práticas de familiares de indivíduos privados de liberdade acerca da tuberculose e avaliar a associação entre o conhecimento e as características sociodemográficas dessa população. Método:
estudo transversal descritivo envolvendo 95 familiares de indivíduos privados de liberdade. A coleta de dados foi realizada em junho e julho de 2015, em uma Delegacia de Polícia Civil do Paraná. Resultados:
a maioria dos entrevistados (86%) referiu ter ouvido falar sobre a tuberculose, e 71% demonstrou ter pouco conhecimento sobre a doença. Não foi observada associação entre conhecimento e condições sociodemográficas e de saúde. Os participantes alegaram sentimentos de medo e vergonha no caso de contágio da doença e desejo de receber mais informações sobre a tuberculose. Conclusão:
os resultados reforçam a necessidade de intervenções educativas para a população avaliada. (AU)

to evaluate the understanding, the attitudes, and the practices of relatives of inmates regarding tuberculosis, and to evaluate the association between their understanding and the socio-demographical characteristics of this population. Method:
this is a transversal descriptive study involving 95 family members of inmates. Data collection took place between June and July 2015, in a civil police station in the state of Paraná. Results:
the majority of the interviewees (86%) reported that they had heard about the illness, and 71% showed little understanding regarding tuberculosis. No association was found between understanding the illness and socio-demographical and health conditions. Participants reported feelings of fear and shame in the case of contamination, and a desire to learn more about tuberculosis. Conclusion:
the results reinforce the need for educational interventions for the evaluated population. (AU)
