Doenças transmissíveis: o percurso das práticas de isolamento

Este trabalho busca recuperar a evolução histórica das práticas de isolamento em doenças transmissíveis, particularmente desde o final da década de 50. A partir da consulta bibliográfica nacional e internacional, foram resgatados alguns aspectos referentes à evolução das práticas de isolamento. Através de depoimentos de profissionais da área da saúde que atuaram num hospital de referência em doenças transmissíveis do Brasil, buscou-se ainda recuperar a atuação da enfermagem na assistência ao paciente em isolamento, ao longo das últimas quatro décadas. A análise dos dados revelou que, apesar das mudanças ocorridas no decorrer dos anos, os princípios que nortearam a definição e a classificação das práticas de isolamento em doenças transmissíveis permaneceram inalteradas, fundamentando as atuais recomendações sobre precauções. Embora tais práticas estejam sujeitas a condicionantes sócio-econômicos e culturais, um dos pontos de grande influência para a sua adoção está ligado à percepção dos profissionais quanto à gravidade e letalidade que o agente ou doença podem provocar.
This study reports the historical evolution of the isolation precsutions concerning the infectuous diseases, particulary in the last half of this century. a review of the literature, both national and international, enabled the recuperation of some aspects related to this evolution and to the practices adopted. health professional that worked at a reference hospital in infectuous diseases were interviewed in order to verify their perceptions about nursing care to the patients under isolation in the last four decades. The data analysis revealed that, in spete of the changes that occured, the principles which guided and directed the definition and the classification of different isolation precautions remained the same and still underline the present recommendations. Althouhg these prectices are conditioned by social, economic and cultural factors, one of the most influent aspects for adopting it is related to the professionals' perception concerning the severity and lethality of the disease ans its ethiological agent.
