Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to perform the validation of the construct, criteria and reliability of an instrument used to evaluate the quality of life of patients with chronic wounds called Wound Quality of Life Portuguese version, Brazil. This is a methodological research, carried out at the Public University Hospital and a Basic Health Unit, located in the city of Curitiba-PR. Three instruments were applied, one for sociodemographic and clinical data analysis and the other two for quality of life assessment, the Wound Quality of Life and the Freiburg Life Quality Assessment Wound. Sampling was non-probabilistic; 100 patients with chronic wounds were enrolled in the study between December 2017 and April 2018. The data was tabulated in Microsoft Office Excel version 2010. For the validation of convergent construct and concurrent criterion, the Spearman's correlation test was used; for reliability analysis, internal consistency was verified by Cronbach's Alpha, both with Software Statistica version 7.0. Of the participants, 66% (n = 66) were in the prevailing age range of ? 60 years, 51% (n = 51) were males, 66% (n = 66) had incomplete elementary school, 75% (n = 75) were retired and 23% (n = 23) had diabetic ulcers. The convergence construct validity showed significant correlation between almost all domains, the Wound Quality of Life body symptom had a greater correlation with the physical symptoms of the Freiburg Life Quality Assessment Wound with (0.7541). The psychic symptoms of Wound Quality of Life with the item of psychological well-being of the Freiburg Life Quality Assessment Wound (0.7287), the daily life item of the Wound Quality of Life presented a high correlation with the daily life items of the Freiburg Life Quality Assessment Wound (0,8730), since the satisfaction item of the Freiburg Life Quality Assessment Wound scale is not found in the Wound Quality of Life scale, so it presented a lower correlation between the subscales. The concurrent criterion was good (0.85) when compared to the overall value of the Wound Quality of Life and the total of the Freiburg Life Quality Assessment Wound. The Cronbach alpha of the Wound Quality of Life scale was 0.846 and the Freiburg Life Quality Assessment Wound was 0.858. The Wound Quality of Life scale presented good psychometric properties and these findings indicate that it is valid for use in research or clinical practice because it is short, with easy application and shorter administration time.
