Living an uncertain future: the pregnancy the experience of a community

Este estudo adotou a Teoria do Cuidado Cultural como referencial teórico que objetivou compreender e descrever como as gestantes e seus maridos, moradores em uma comunidade de baixa renda da cidade de Sorocaba vivenciam a gravidez. A coleta dosdados foi realizada pelo método que LEININGER denominou etnoenfermagem, ao qual se associou o recurso da história oral temática, preconizada por MEIHY. Da análise dos tons vitais e das respectivas narrativas, emergiram cinco descritoresculturais e o tema cultural: "Vivendo um futuro incerto: procurando adaptar-se às novas situações que emergem da gravidez e pedindo a Deus que mostre o caminho certo". Os dados foram analisados à luz do Sunrise Model, que foi seguido peloestabelecimento de suas relações com os sistemas profissional, de enfermagem e popular, com contribuições para o cuidado cultural.
This study adapted the Theory of the Cultural Care as a theoretical framework and its purpose is to understand and describe how pregnant women and their husbands living in a low income community of Sorocaba, SP, Brazil, go through the experienceof pregnancy. The data collection was carried out according to Leininger's ethnonursing method, to which the resource of the thematic oral history, which was described by MEIHY. From the analysis of the vital tones and its respectivesnarratives, five cultural descriptors and the cultural theme emerged: "Living in an uncertain future: trying to adapt to the new situations that result from pregnancy and asking God to show us the right way". These data were analysed accordingto the "Sunrise Model", which was followed by the establishment of their relationships with the professional, nursing and popular system, contributing to the cultural care.
