Necessidades em recursos físicos e humanos: perspectiva dos pais da criança hospitalizada

ctualmente, cuidar em pediatria significa envolver nos cuidados a criança e a pessoa significativa para ela. Sendo os pais os principais cuidadores das crianças, a presença destes durante a hospitalização é reconhecida como benéfica para ambos. Compreender as necessidades dos pais nomeadamente as relacionadas com os recursos físicos e humanos neste período, é importante para o desenvolvimento de estratégias promotoras do envolvimento destes nos cuidados de saúde ao filho. A abordagem do estudo vai no sentido de perceber as expectativas dos pais no que diz respeito à importância, satisfação e independência sentidas por estes, em relação às necessidades supracitadas. Desenvolvemos um estudo exploratório, descritivo, correlacional de cariz essencialmente quantitativo com uma amostra de 184 pais de crianças hospitalizadas, envolvendo quatro hospitais. Para a colheita de dados foi utilizado o “Needs of Parents Questionnaire” desenvolvido por Gudrún Kristjànsdóttir e validado para a cultura portuguesa pelo Centro de Estudos e Investigação em Saúde da Universidade de Coimbra, e um questionário para caracterização da amostra. Os resultados obtidos no estudo, mostram que pais/pessoa significativa quando acompanham a criança hospitalizada, atribuem muita importância aos recursos físicos e humanos, mostram-se satisfeitos e são independentes do hospital para a satisfação desta necessidade. Constatámos também a influência de algumas variáveis de caracterização dos pais, criança e hospitalização na percepção desta necessidade. Não basta legislar sobre o acompanhamento dos pais à criança hospitalizada se não forem oferecidas condições para essa permanência, e se num ambiente multidisciplinar não se trabalharem os conceitos de envolvimento, parceria, negociação, participação, e papel parental.
Provision of pediatric health care today implies involving not only the child but as well as the significant person of the child. Parents are the main care providers of children; their presence during hospitalization is acknowledged as being beneficial to both. Understanding parental needs, namely those related to physical and human resources during this period, is important in the development of strategies that will promote the involvement of the parents in providing health care to their child. The purpose of the study and the approach used are to obtain an understanding of the parents’ expectations, regarding the importance, satisfaction and independence felt by them in relation to the above described needs. An exploratory, descriptive and correlational study was designed. An essentially quantative analysis was done of data collected from 184 parents of hospitalized children. The “Needs of Parents Questionnaire” developed by Gudrún Kristjànsdóttir and validated for the Portuguese culture by the Centro de Estudos e Investigação em Saúde da Universidade de Coimbra was used to collect the data and a questionnaire to characterize the parents interviewed in the study. The results obtained revealed that the parent/significant person accompanying the hospitalized child attributed a great importance to available physical and human resources and that they were satisfied and independent of the hospital in satisfying those needs. Parent, child and hospitalization characteristics were found also to influence the perception of these needs. It is not enough to legislate that parents be able to accompany their hospitalized child, if physical and human resources are not provided, and if the role of partnerships, negotiation, participation and parents are not taken into account in a multidisciplinary environment.
