A pesquisa presente vem ao encontro da necessidade de compreender os elementos que entram em destaque no momento em que o enfermeiro direciona-se para as famílias, importando-se em cuidar delas. Atualmente os contextos de enfermagem apresentam lacunas de consideração com relação a tal entidade, que deve e é elemento a ser cuidado pelo enfermeiro. Utilizando-se como referencial teórico o Interacionismo Simbólico e como referencial metodológico o Interacionismo Interpretativo foram obtidas narrativas biográficas de doze enfermeiras. Os dados analisados reconstroem uma história que contém os elementos de sensibilização, verificando que é por meio da definição sobre família e cuidar que o enfermeiro pediatra se abre, progressivamente, para a família, para um estar junto dela, alcançando uma liberdade de ação.
The present study meets the need to comprehend the elements that come into prominence at the moment in which the nurse 'moves' to the families, with the intention of caring for them. The actual context of nursing services shows evidence of lack of attention to this entity, who must and is someone to be cared for by the nurses. Adopting as theoretical approach the Symbolic Interactionism and, as methodological approach the Interpretative Interactionism, biographical narratives of twelve nurse were obtained. Their analysis allowed the reconstruction of a story wich contained elements of the mobilization, concluding that it is through defining and reflecting upon family and caring that the pediatric nurses move themselves, progressively, to the family, to a being with them, reaching the freedom to act.
