The importance and the comprehension of the verbal and non-verbal communication under the view of the medical graduating student

O presente estudo investigou a importância e a compreensão que o graduando de Medicina tem sobre a comunicação interpessoal no atendimento ao paciente e a importância que atribui na criação do vínculo profissional entre o médico e o paciente. Foi realizado um estudo descritivo, de campo, com abordagem quantitativa, realizado com 43 alunos (53,7%) do 4º ano de Medicina de uma Universidade privada do litoral de São Paulo. Os dados foram obtidos em novembro de 2001, por meio de questionário aberto com seis questões diretivas e o método de Bardin (1977) foi usado para analisar o conteúdo da fala desses questionários. Percebeu-se que os graduandos necessitam de informações sobre a comunicação verbal e não-verbal, pois apesar de compreenderem sua importância não conseguem elaborar definições, demonstrando entender de modo superficial esse tema. Conclui-se que para que se possa investir na melhora da relação médico-paciente é necessário fazer com que ainda graduandos, os futuros profissionais percebam e se capacitem nas estratégias que promovem vínculo e geram confiança no atendimento.
The present study searched into the importance and the comprehension that the medical graduating students has about the interpersonal communication in taking care of the patient and the importance that he can imput to create a professional link between the doctor and the patient. It was developed a descriptive study, of this field, with a quantitative approach, with 43 students from the 4th. level of a private Medical University in São Paulo coastland in November 2001. The data was archived through an open quiz with six directive questions and the Bardin method (1977) was used to analyze these questionnaires content. It was noticed that the graduating students need precise information about verbal and non-verbal communication, because in inspite of understanding its importance, they can't make up definitions, showing that their understanding is clearly superficial around this theme. To have a more effective relation patient-doctor it is necessary to make graduating students, that will be the future professionals, be aware of the strategies that promote the link and the confidence in taking care of the patients.
