A comunicação terapêutica como promotora do bem-estar da pessoa em cuidados paliativos
Publication year: 2012
Increased longevity and the epidemiological transitions in which cases of chronic disease acquire progressivity, as well as changes in the family network have had an increasing impact on the organisation of health systems and resources specifically designed for the chronically ill, thus creating palliative care units (PORTUGAL. Programa Nacional de Cuidados Paliativos, 2004).
Objective:
To determine how the establishment of therapeutic communication, as nursing intervention, promotes the well-being of the patient with palliative care needs.Methodology:
Research conducted using the RSL, aiming to promote reflection on action and about action, mobilising, for that purpose, the theory on the development of knowledge in nursing. Research is done with the search engine EBSCO, on two databases: CINAHL Plus with Full Text and MEDLINE with Full Text, in order to select full-text articles in the period between January 2005 and January 2011 that answered the PICO question “Does therapeutic communication promote the well-being of the patient with palliative care needs?” Results: Palliative Care is care provided to patients in a state of intense suffering caused by incurable disease at an advanced stage, and rapidly progressive, with the main aim of promoting, as much as possible and until the end, the patient’s well-being and quality of life. One of the important aspects is undoubtedly the establishment of an effective relationship with the patient/family and the team. In this way, it is up to the nurse to establish effective communication, being a key factor in a relationship with the patient. Conclusions:
The establishment of therapeutic communication is certainly one way of obtaining quality care, considering it as an autonomous nursing intervention
